19th Bienal Poster
As in the poster for the 18th Bienal; the number of the Bienal edition is the main element but the chromatic vibration and profusion of forms gives way to the sobriety of blacks and browns and the latters conciseness. The curators theme was Utopia versus Reality. A continuous brush stroke - the foundational gesture of painting - transforms the numbers 1 and 9 into a single image, with a small red patch placed inside the ring of the number 9. The ensemble floats alone in the field defined by the Iine of the horizon. Bienal 50 Anos, 1951-2001, 2001, p.301
